Please check out the article Flash layout. It contains examples and explanations that describe how to document the flash layout.
Installation
This device uses dual-image (switched between upgrades) with a common jffs2 config partition. Fortunately, there is a way to disable this mode so that more flash space can be used by OpenWrt image. (mentioned in the initial git commit, i don't know how to do this and it isn't elaborated upon)
You can easily access this device over telnet, using root/root credentials (the same also work for serial console access).
- Make sure that your device uses second (
bootpart=2) image using the commandfw_printenv bootpart. - If your device uses first image (
bootpart=1) you need to perform a firmware upgrade.- Download the OEM firmware from the URL above, unzip it and place
SS_BHUB_vX.X.XX.binon the top level of a FAT formatted USB flash drive, and plug it in to the device. The power LED should start flashing, after the update when the power LED stops flashing and stays ON, the device should boot from second partition. - You can verify the firmware upgrade using the web gui. (default login:
admin/1234567890)
- Download the sysupgrade image (you can use
wget, tftporftpget) and flash it to the device using issue following commands:
cd /tmp
wget https://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/24.10.1/targets/ath79/generic/openwrt-24.10.1-ath79-generic-samsung_wam250-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin -O firmware.bin
mtd_debug erase /dev/mtd3 0 $(wc -c /tmp/firmware.bin | awk -F' ' '{print $1}')
mtd_debug write /dev/mtd3 0 $(wc -c /tmp/firmware.bin)
fw_setenv bootpart
fw_setenv bootcmd "bootm 0x9f070000"
reboot
Revert to Vendor Firmware
Download vendor firmware to “/tmp” device and issue below commands:
fw_setenv bootpart 1 sysupgrade -n -F SS_BHUB_v2.2.05.bin
Upgrading OpenWrt
LuCI Web Upgrade Process
- Browse to
http://192.168.1.1/cgi-bin/luci/mini/system/upgrade/LuCI Upgrade URL - Upload image file for sysupgrade to LuCI
- Wait for reboot
Terminal Upgrade Process
If you don't have a GUI (LuCI) available, you can alternatively upgrade via the command line using sysupgrade. Login as root via SSH on 192.168.1.1, then enter the following commands:
cd /tmp wget https://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/24.10.1/targets/ath79/generic/openwrt-24.10.1-ath79-generic-samsung_wam250-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin -O firmware.bin sysupgrade /tmp/firmware.bin
